Under the theme of ethical sustainable clothing brands, this is another article about yoga, active and leisure wear. Most of the clothing from companies featured here are made from bamboo, cotton, wool, silk, and recycled synthetics natural yoga clothes. I compiled a post on the ethics of the most popular fibre types, which might help you to make your own decision on what suits your values best, even though I am very conflicted about thesustainability of bamboo in particular.

Holland / The Netherlands
In GOTS certified factories in Europe and ISO certified factories outside of Europe, Ironroots makes sportswear from non-plastic materials. They use the most sustainable transport method for their products. They recycle their garments into new ones. There are sizes for men and women.
Pure by Luce is a brand that makes active wear from recycled materials.
The organic pinewood fibres used in Do You Green’s lounge and yoga wear absorb perspiration twice as much as cotton and is softer than any other cloth. The materials and dying are made in France and done to the Oeko-Tex standard. Their packaging is made of plastic. The company uses the term organic pinewood fibres but doesn’t give any details on the process involved in converting them to fibre I wonder if the fibre they are using is actually Rayon. If this is the case, I wonder why the company hasn’t declared that. The company never replied to my email.
The organic cotton and synthetic fibres used in the brand’s clothing is sometimes mixed with other fabrics. They are certified as being organic by GOTS and have a fair trade licence. Free shipping is offered.
Loud and Proud makes t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies for women from GOTS certified organic cotton. The office is in a restored 17th century building and uses 100% renewable energy and an electric car. They planted trees to offset their carbon emissions.
Runamatics clothing is made from materials that will biodegrade in less than 5 years. It wants to be the first cradle to cradle certified sportswear brand. There are sizes for women and men.
Fairwear accredited factories make leggings from organic cotton. They have been a member of the Fairwear Foundation for four years.
Under the Same Sun is a Swedish brand that makes yoga and leisure wear in Portugal. They use textiles that are low impact. The Renew Prime fabric that they use is made of 100% recycled material and the yarn that they use is made of 100% recycled material. The best quality yarn is achieved by brushing the goat in Mongolia once a year, a technique that the company claims does not compromise the well-being of the animal. The company claims that they use a printing technique that is safe for the environment and the worker and produces zero waste.
Houdini make active and skiwear from natural and recycled fabric, which they cover with a lifetime guarantee at the end of their lives. Most of their production takes place in Europe. Their website has a list of their suppliers. They have a rental service online and in store.
B-light in Sweden sells organic cotton blended with lyra. The organic cotton is un-recyclable because of the blend of synthetic fibres. Women’s and men’s sizes.
Swiss company Odlo makes outdoor and active clothing in Fairwear accredited factories in Portugal and Germany using recycled materials and ethical down. They relocated some of their production to Germany, and offset the carbon of every online order they ship directly to customers.

In southern Turkey, a GOTS certified factory makes yoga and activewear from bamboo and organic cotton. They claim to package everything so you can do the same. Nothing is ever tested on animals when they use products.
Noctu is based in the UK and Norway and makes organic cotton lounge wear and nightwear. They say that they are committed to helping people who have been affected by the chemicals used in growing crops by establishing a cancer hospital. Their cotton products are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard.

From clothing is a yoga and active lifestyle brand. They use GOTS certified organic cotton grown in India for their active wear designs. Their wool is certified as ethicallysourced. All sheep farms follow a non-mulesing policy to ensure the health and welfare of the sheep. The wool is spun into yarn in Portugal. The regenerated Eucalyptus tree plantations are grown specifically for fibre production. They claim that plantations are regenerated using integrated management practices and that they provide community employment.
Thought sells lounge wear made of bamboo or organic cotton. The aim of this company is to make sure that their fabrics and how their garments are designed, made and delivered is ethically done. They claim that their finishes are as eco-friendly as possible and that they use dyes that are free from Azo. Each piece of their collection is made in the same country so never needs to be shipped from place to place and when it is time to transport them they claim to choose a slow option. They are members of the Ethical Fashion Forum. Women’s and men’s sizes 6 to 18.
Marzipants is a UK based company that sells Thai fishing pants which are made in India in accordance with fair trade principles in a 400 year old family-run workshop using traditional methods to hand dye, cut, sew and block print many of their garments The company doesn’t seem to offer any accreditation or certification.
UK based Cambridge baby sell German sportswear brand, which is made from organic wool and silk Women’s sizes are 8 to 18.
Bamboo Bamboo clothing is a UK based company that sells bamboo clothing for men and women. The company says that they are committed to everyone being treated fairly and responsible, but they don’t seem to have any independent accreditation or certification.

Presca Sportwear use recycled material from Europe and the UK to make their sports and cycling gear. They are going to have all of their garments circular by the year 2022. This will allow you to return worn out clothing to the company for recycling. They are working to make the company carbon neutral by mail. Women’s and men’s sizes XXS and XXXL.
Planet Warriors make sports bras and leggings from recycled plastic waste, as well as t-shirts and sweatshirts from organic cotton. They don’t use swing tags or plastic tags and their packaging is plastic free and recycled.
The recycled nylon made from salvaged marine waste in Portugal and China is used by the UK brand Tribe Sports. You can send back garments from any brand to be recycled. One tree is planted for every order that is placed. There are sizes for men and women.
We are Samudra make sports tops and t-shirts in London from recycled material and salvaged marine waste. 5% of their profits are donated to marine waste charities.
OEKO-TEX certified swimwear and clothing is made by a UK brand. The swing tags are made from recycled paper with natural ties. The fabric mills that make their eco neoprene are Blue Sign certified for excellence in energy and water usage and waste disposal. There are sizes for men and women.
Contur make leggings from recycled plastic and cotton.
The ROXY board shorts are made with recycled plastic bottles. It is easy to find ROXY in high-street stores.
Northface has started to sell refurbished clothing.
There is a range of running and cycling tops.
Sundried has two collections made from recycled materials. The Eco Core and Eco Charge products are made from recycled plastic bottles. It is not clear if the recycled coffee ground fabric will be recycled at the end of it’s life. There are sizes for men and women.
Cream and Co is an online store that sells bamboo tops. There isn’t any evidence that the bamboo they use is sustainable or that the cotton they use is fair trade.
A few makers of sustainable ethical activewear can be found in the UK.

The name of the website suggests that it ranks brands based on their sustainable practices.
