Sugar is the New Fat

It has been 40 years since Americans were told that fat is bad and that sugar is good.

The science is irrefutable. Sugar is the root cause of our Obesity epidemic and most of the chronic disease that is sucking the life out of our citizens and economy. Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, type 2 diabetes, depression, and infertility are all caused by sugar.

The average American eats about 150 pounds of sugar a year. Every person in America gets roughly 22 ounces of that every day. Our kids consume over two 20-ounce sodas every day, making them nearly one in four teenagers who are pre-Diabetes.

It’s worse than sugar. We use 146 pounds of flour a year. Think of it. Every man, woman and child in America gets one pound of sugar and flour every day. Blood sugar is raised more than table sugar by flour.

Being addicted to sugar and flour isn’t an eating disorder. It is a disorder that is caused by hormones and neurotransmitters and leads to over eating. This is not a one-off. 70 percent of Americans and 40 percent of kids are overweight. In one study, Harvard scientists found that a high-sugar milkshake caused huge changes in the brain, and it spiked blood sugar. On the Fourth of July, the addiction center in the brain was lit up by sugar. Think of cocaine cookies, muffins, or sodas.

1. Make a decision to detox

If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you will be able to lose weight quickly and painlessly.

There is a quiz. Do you know if you have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes? Do you have a belly? Are you having trouble with low-fat diet? Have you been told your blood sugar is too high?

There is a food addiction more information quiz. Do you experience a food coma? Are you feeling bad about your eating habits? If you stop eating sugar or flour, you will have withdrawal symptoms. Do you need more bad food to feel good?

2. Be a turkey (a cold one)

There is only one way to stop a true addiction. If you follow the 10 big ideas, you will be able to reset your body’s hormones. Sugar, flour, and artificial sweeteners cause increased cravings, slow metabolism, and lead to fat storage. Get rid of anything that has trans or hydrogenated fats. If you want to stick to real, whole, fresh food, you should avoid foods that come in a box, package or can. The best way to get rid of all grains is to give them up for 10 days.

3. Don’t drink your calories

Solid food with sugar or flour is worse than any form of liquid sugar. Think of it as mainlining sugar. It turns off a fat storage machine in the body. You don’t feel full, so you eat more all day, and you want more food. It is the largest source of sugar calories in our diet. Green vegetable juice, sports drinks, sweetened teas or coffees are not included. One 20-ounce soda has 15 grams of sugar, while the other has 14 grams.

4. Power up the day with protein

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for balancing blood sugar and insulin. You can start the day with whole farm eggs. I like my Shake. You can use nuts, seeds, eggs, fish, chicken and grass-fed meat for your meals. The serving size is 3-6 ounces.

5. Eat unlimited carbs (the right ones)

That is correct. You can eat as much as you please. There is a catch. I only mean non-starchy veggies such as greens, the broccoli family, asparagus, green beans, mushrooms, onions, zucchini, tomatoes, fennel, eggplant, artichokes, peppers, etc. For 10 days, skip grains and beans. It makes it easier to lose weight.

6. Fight sugar with fat

Fat is not a letter. Sugar makes you fat. Fat balances your blood sugar and makes you full. Good fats include nuts and seeds, extra virgin olive oil, coconut butter, avocados, and Omega 3 fats from fish.

7. Be ready for emergencies

You don’t want to be in a food emergency when your blood sugar is dropping and you find yourself in a maze of convenience stores, fast food joints and vending machines. You need a life jacket. I never have to make a bad choice because I have a good one with me all the time. Here is what I have. There are packets of nut butters and coconut butter, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, salmon jerky, cans of wild salmon or sardines, and wild blueberries.

8. Swap distress for de-stress

Your hormones go crazy if you’re stressed. Belly fat storage and type 2 diabetes can be caused byCortisol going up. Studies show that taking deep breaths can help you out of stress by shifting your metabolism from fat storage to fat burning in just a few minutes. Take a deep breath. My Take Five Breathing Break is something you can do any time. Take five slow deep breaths and then count the number of breaths. Do this before you eat. What will happen?

9. Put out the fire (of inflammation)

Studies show that inflammation can cause a number of diseases. Hidden food sensitivities are the most common source of inflammatory foods. They are the most common culprits. We like the foods that are allergic to. We don’t want more without them. After just two to three days without them, you will have renewed energy, relief from cravings, and many of your symptoms will disappear.

10. Get your zzzs

If you get less sleep, you will have more cravings for sugar and calories. College students who didn’t get the recommended eight hours of sleep had a rise in hunger hormones, a decrease in appetite-suppressing hormones, and big cravings for sugar and refined food. You want more energy if you don’t sleep. The best way to fight the urge to eat is to sleep. You can lose weight and sleep at the same time.
